Susan Steibe-Pasalich, director of the University Counseling Center, was appointed research chair of the National Review Board of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for a two-year term.

Activities

Patrick Bennett, glassblower in the Radiation Laboratory, presented “Characteristics of Quartz Glass: Properties, Tools and Techniques for Quality Quartz Work” at the “54th Annual Symposium & Exposition" of the American Scientific Glassblowers Society, June 3–6, 2009, in Vancouver, Wash.

Paulo Cabral do Couto, postdoctoral research associate in the Radiation Laboratory, presented “Benchmark Calculations on Hydrogen Bonded Systems,” written with staff member Christopher Ing, at the “49th Sanibel Symposium” in St. Simons Island, Ga. Feb. 26–March 3, 2009.

Philip J. Iapalucci Jr., chief audit executive, audit and advisory services, presented “What Can you Do? Monitoring and Enforcement: The Final Steps in Compliance” , with D. Wynes and A. Tahmassian at the Oct. 30–31, 2008, Council on Governmental Relations meeting in Washington, D.C.

Kevin Tvrdy, staff member in the Radiation Laboratory, presented “Mechanistic Insights of Quantum Dot Sensitized Solar Cells” (written with David Baker, staff member in the Radiation Laboratory, and Prashant V. Kamat, professor of chemistry and biochemistry, senior scientist in the Radiation Laboratory, and concurrent professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering) at the American Chemical Society meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, March 22–26, 2009.
